Everybody Flirts
The word
Flirting actually comes from the old French
"Conter fleurette", which means "to (try to) seduce" with playful or romantic
gestures.
Unsurprisingly studies have shown that flirting behaviour, in the form of
playfulness, romance, brief physical contact or
conversation, is strikingly similar across all cultures and societies.
Flirting can be employed to express interest in a potential mate or used
to test a potential partner's availability. Very often this behaviour
can continue long after the "honeymoon period" of a relationship, and last a whole
lifetime. It's also done just for fun, with no further intentions.
There's a whole set of complex unwritten laws of etiquette which govern
how, with
whom or
when we flirt - which can be a problem
especially since it's possible to flirt without really being aware of it!
