Good book but...

- 26 Jun, 2010
This was a pretty good book with plenty of humor but there were some things that bugged me about Kira.

1. When she was turned into a vampire she had to leave her old life behind and begin a new life with her vampire "family". Throughout the whole book she really only mentioned her first family once or twice and she didn't seem too concerned with them. Like she didn't really care anymore- and that kinda annoyed me.

and 2. Kira was interested in three boys, Daniel, Milo and Rowan. When Rowan was out of the picture she really started to like Milo- but that relationship was cut short and Kira was devastated, but then she realized she still had Daniel and went right on over to him and all was well. Like if she couldn't have Milo at least she had a back up.

Overall, besides some of the parts I found annoying, this was a fun book with humor and mystery.

Kira's in a bit of a situation. She's a vampire, and one of her classmates was just found dead with obvious fang marks in his neck. Now, her guardians think she's the culprit, even though she didn't do it. Since no one believes her, Kira decides to solve the issue on her own. She has three suspects, all of whom happen to be very cute. Will Kira fall for the killer, or learn his identity in time?

NEVER BITE A BOY ON THE FIRST DATE is another fun addition to the world of vampire fiction. While it didn't blow me away, I had fun while I was reading it. It's a cute romantic comedy with a vampire twist.

Kira was a solid main character. She was funny, nice, and easy to relate to. The three boys in her life were all quite enticing, as well. They were sweet and livened up the story, but I found them to be somewhat indistinguishable. Each one blended into the other while I was reading.

The plot moved along quickly enough as Kira tried to solve the murder in time while keeping her wits about her. I had no idea who the killer was until the very end. I had suspicions about the real killer in the very beginning, but completely forgot about them until the end. I liked the guesswork involved in this book and was glad it wasn't too predictable.

Though a bit too much on the light side for my liking, this is a quick read that will entertain young girls looking for more vampire fiction to devour.

A Nice YA Novel

- 17 Mar, 2010
As I was on-line combing my library for books, this title immediately caught my eye and I couldn't resist. I'm glad I got it. Never Bite A Boy on the First Date was too cute. I don't read a lot of young adult books. Going through puberty once was bad enough. I have no desire to feel all that angst again thank you very much.

I was a little worried when I read the prologue. It had a Twilight feel and I feared I would have to suffer though someone's attempt to capitalize on the success of Twilight. I was wrong. Never Bite A Boy on the First Date was a good story and gets major cool points because I never felt the desire to bash the heroine's head in with a baseball bat like I did while reading Twilight.

Characters: Kira the heroine was adorable. Despite being a new vampire, she was age appropriate, not perfect, and not angsting over the abrupt change her life has taken. Her fumbling attempts to discover who killed her classmate were entertaining and quite believable. Her vampire family was quirky, with distinct personalities. While I was annoyed with how Kira jumped from boy to boy without any thought or attempt to talk to the boy to let them know why she felt the way she did, I had to remind myself that this is a young-adult novel and umm . . . I did the same thing back in the day.

Plot: I was a little confused at first. Never Bite A Boy on the First Date reads like it's the sequel. I couldn't help but wonder if the author wrote another book that didn't get published. It was very confusing because I felt I was missing something that had happened in a previous book. That feeling went away after awhile. I wished the author would've made it read less like a sequel (even though it wasn't) and more like a stand-alone novel. On a positive note though. I'm usually good at discovering who dun it and despite the clues peppered throughout, I couldn't guess who the killer was in Never Bite A Boy on A First Date. Awesome job for that, even though when I finally figured it out I had a 'duh' moment.

Romance: I wish the romantic aspect had a little bit more depth to it. I would like to see what the attraction was between Kira and one of the boys. To say more would be too much of a spoiler. I needed to see more about what drew them together as there is such a huge difference in level of maturity.

ADDICTING

- 6 Feb, 2010
Once I started I couldn't put it down. The author's lighthearted, witty tone made this book one of thee most enjoyable things I've read to date. The main character is flawed, as all teens are, but she's okay with it. She knows how to work her, ahem, assets and doesn't take issue with the fact that her life isn't entirely normal anymore. I love the twist and how it connected past and present. (People who have read the book will know what this means, but I really don't want to give anything away.) I loved all the characters and how you were never quite sure who our beloved main character would 'end up' with. I read this in five hours (give or take two hours I had to put it down for a Doctors Apt.) and I'm keeping it even though I made a mess of it by dropping it in a puddle of slushy snow. Keeper shelf! I promise.
